My friend Gautam Kamath stops by to discuss ChatGPT and machine learning. We discuss the pros an cons of so-called AI as well as some of their unfair biases. Gautam Kamath is an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo’s Cheriton School of Computer Science and a faculty affiliate at the Vector Institute. He runs a research group called The Salon. His research interests lie in the field of reliable and trustworthy statistics and machine learning, including considerations such as data privacy and robustness. He has a PhD from MIT, where he was advised by Costis Daskalakis, and was a Microsoft Research Fellow at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing. Some of his recent research publications include “Private GANs, Revisited,” “A Bias-Variance-Privacy Trilemma for Statistical Estimation,” “Hidden Poison: Machine Unlearning Enables Camouflaged Poisoning Attacks,” and “Considerations for Differentially Private Learning with Large-Scale Public Pretraining.”
